There are 11 Studio majors at KCAI, plus Art History and Creative Writing.
And students have the opportunity to pair that art history or creative writing double major with one of our studio disciplines.
They could choose to major in animation, or illustration, graphic design or product design, ceramics, fiber, painting, printmaking, photography, filmmaking and sculpture.
For each department, you know, the culture and relationships between students just might be slightly different. So it's really about finding, you know, a department that suits you best.
What's really exciting that we offer is our foundation program, and those students have the opportunity to really explore different materials, different methods that will really help them choose their major.
We offer a broad array of electives beyond our major studio classes. So each student really is able to craft a pretty specific curriculum based on what their interests are.
Each student has their own dedicated studio space. It is really helpful to our students workflow, in terms of just jumping back into the studio and being creative.
Studios are very generous in size. We all have the same ample spaces, which activates the community sense where there is no waiting to become an artist, you are immediately introduced to your own world to create, decorate and mess up as much as you want. And with those mistakes comes triumphs that are shared. Each of our faculty members is an artist designer or scholar in their field, but they are also dedicated educators. Our mantra is the students don't come to our classes, we go to their studios. And so we're working to help them develop a personalized studio practice from the first day they're in the department.
